“Toni Lance’s watercolors convey a passion for her subject. The closely cropped views, coupled with rich and dynamic color choices, do not simply highlight the beauty of birds and the Caribbean; they invite the viewer into a lush landscape filled with vibrant color and teeming with life. The decision to feature her paintings in the spring 2010 issue of Watercolor magazine (a quarterly publication in the American Artist family of magazines) was an easy one to make. She is someone who has been painting professionally for 30 years, and shows a dedication to her subject both creatively and personally, with the establishment of the St. Croix Avian Sanctuary nearly 20 years ago. What makes Toni’s work equally inspiring is that she is still committed to evolving as an artist. The article is entitled “Finding Your Niche,” and highlights Toni’s recent decision to focus on developing her signature style. Many artists with her level of experience can get stuck in a rut, and it’s easy to rest on one’s laurels when there is continued success. Toni, on the other hand, uses her success as inspiration to keep moving forward, and engaging in a process of self-exploration in the name of art.”
